Water Polo Canada will be hosting the newly launched “NCCP Community Sport Water Polo course:
I Love Water Polo” at the 2010 Atlantic Coaches Seminar, May 22-23 at UPEI in Charlottetown, PEI.

I Love Water Polo

The Community – Sport Initiation “I Love Water Polo” coaching program is a new NCCP coach education program within the Water Polo Canada coaching community.
The “I Love Water Polo” coach instructs/coaches participants aged 12 and under (12U), or recreational/community water polo for older athletes. In LTAD terms, the “I Love Water Polo”
coach will be coaching participants in the FUNdamentals, Learning to Train, and Active for Life pathways.

There are no pre-requisites needed to enroll in the Community – Sport Initiation “I Love Water Polo” coach workshop, and no prior water polo experience necessary.

The program has been designed for all coaching ages (minimum 14 years of age) and levels of experience. The workshop includes a DVD containing a description of the “I Love Water Polo” skills, rules, basic tactics,
and other tools that will help the “I Love Water Polo” coach make a difference in their community. Lesson plans, activities/drills, and details about how children learn are also included in the Coach Toolbox.

Learning facilitator Mr. Andrew Brillant (NB) & water polo expert Ms. Katinka Postma (NB) will lead this course:
Andrew Brillant is a Water Polo Canada, Master Learner Facilitator for the Community Sport-Initiation Program.

Andrew became involved in water polo after first experiencing the sport in 2004. Recently he has begun coaching a community sport program for those 13-16 years of age.
He also continues to play with Saint John’s recreational adult club. He was recently hired by Water Polo Canada to assist in the pilot, “I Love Water Polo” program in the province of NB from January to March 2010.

Foreign water polo expert, Katinka Postma who originates from the world class Netherlands water polo program, has been active as a player since 1981. She turned to coaching in 1989 and has not looked back.
She relocated to Saint John, NB in 2003 where she is the Head Coach of the Saint John Water Polo Club. She was recently hired by Water Polo Canada to lead the pilot, “I Love Water Polo” program in the province of NB from
January to March 2010, which has had a huge response from the local community pools!

Course Details:

Saturday May 22nd

– 9:00am to 12 noon class

– 1:00 – 3:00pm class

– 4:00 – 6:00pm pool (bring your swim suit)

Sunday May 23rd

– 9:00 – 11:00am class

– 1:00am – 1:00pm pool (bring your swim suit)

Location: Charlottetown, PEI

Facilities: UPEI, location tbc
